Ross Brawn opts for an SREC in 2013

If all the actors of the Formula 1 are aware that it will be necessary to reintroduce the SREC, kinetic energy recovery system, in the short term, not everyone agrees on the different modalities. So, rather than 2011, Ross Brawn, team principal of Mercedes GP, believes that the system seen in 2009 should return in 2013, without closing the door to an earlier return.

« We concede that SREC will have a role to play in future technologies, admits the Briton. We believe that its contribution was not sufficient last year, we must work with this in mind in the future. We would prefer to study a system planned and studied to be integrated into the new engine, which should arrive in 2013. That does not mean that it cannot be reintroduced before. We could anticipate. »

However, Ross Brawn is not the first to campaign for a rapid return of the SREC. The Mercedes GP boss prefers that the next system be studied in more depth. “ If we develop one system now, and another for 2013, it would be a shame because the system we have today certainly does not provide enough than we could hope for. We would need time to examine a system that is effective enough to improve the sporting side of racing. »
