Russell: “Sprint race will not benefit Williams”

Very efficient in the exercise of a lap, George Russell could be one of the drivers to undergo the sprint race. The new weekend format will be inaugurated at the next Grand Prix of F1 on the Silverstone circuit.

If on Friday the teams will do a “normal” qualifying session with Q1, Q2 and Q3, on Saturday they will complete a 100 km race, in order to determine the starting grid for the main race on Sunday.

“I'm not sure that the sprint race works to our advantage, in the sense that we are better in qualifying than in the race, relates the English pilot. But we have to give this format a chance and maybe, on the contrary, we can take advantage of it.”

George Russell's performances during the last qualifying rounds are excellent for the Williams, especially when compared to his teammate Nicholas latifi. In Austria, he even places his car in Q3 with medium tires, which bodes well for the Briton.

“We have been doing a good job for weeks, explains Russell. P12 in France, P8 in Styria before retirement and P11 in the last race. It’s really promising for the rest of the season.”

Enough to give the crowd an additional reason to come to Silverstone. The circuit will probably be “Sold Out”, which should give an additional boost to Lewis Hamilton but also to George Russell.

“There will be even more crowds at Silverstone than in Austria and I'm sure they'll set things on fire. Even more if England wins the Euro on Sunday.”
