Sainz encouraged by Ferrari progress

Laughs best who laughs last. Recruited by Ferrari to replace Sebastian Vettel in 2021 even before the season kicks off, Carlos Sainz wiped many valves, including internally at McLaren even if they amounted to teasing, given the performances of the Team

Faced with incessant questions about the fitness of his future team, the Spaniard kept repeating that he did not regret his decision to join the house of Maranello.

The progress made by Ferrari during the last Grands Prix is necessarily likely to reassure him in his choice.

« They have been launched with positive momentum for several weeks, commented Sainz ahead of the Bahrain GP. I think they demonstrated that they identified the problems that slowed them down at the start of the season. They showed great strength of character.

It's encouraging to see this and I can't wait to find out what they changed. But I have a few races left with McLaren before that ».

The Spaniard actually has his work cut out for him as the Woking team is currently involved in an intense fight for 3rd place in the Constructors' Championship with Racing Point, Renault…and his future Ferrari team, well back after their nice group shot in Istanbul.

Once the curtain falls on this 2020 campaign, Sainz could imitate his compatriot Fernando Alonso at Renault and rack up the miles behind the wheel of a Ferrari that is at least two years old. Indeed, the 2021 winter tests will be limited to only 3 days, or 1 and a half days per driver, with the cars from the current season.

« When I leave McLaren to become a Ferrari driver, everything will be done to ensure that I am as well prepared as possible by the first race of the season., added the 26-year-old young man.

I can already tell you that spending a day and a half behind the wheel of one of these complex single-seaters is not enough to prepare for a season. You can do as many simulators as you want, some little things will always escape you, especially when it comes to driving procedures. In the same vein, it is very complicated to get to know everyone in such a short time ».

There is no doubt that if the future creation of Maranello proves to be much more efficient than its predecessor, the adaptation phase of the Iberian driver will then be greatly facilitated.
