Sainz Jr and Norris count on the support of Alonso

McLaren has chosen to bet on a new crew next year with Carlos Sainz Jr poached from home Renault who will evolve alongside the rookie Lando Norris.

The two new representatives of the Woking team hope to receive help from Fernando Alonso, the Asturian having chosen to leave the F1 to focus on the WEC with Toyota et l’Indy 500 avec le constructeur britannique.

“We will miss Fernando, recognized his compatriot. I haven't had the chance to speak to him since the end of the season, he's certainly one of the busiest people on earth. But I really hope that one day we will have the chance to chat and do a little briefing on McLaren, to be able to ask him a few questions..."

His future teammate fresh out of F2 also hopes to benefit from the support of the double world champion.

“His presence would be a real added value, confided the F2 vice-champion. He clearly has the best perspective on how the car has evolved over the years, the best experience of what's good and bad, much more than me. He is still part of the McLaren family. I think the choice rests largely on him. I would obviously like to have as many days of testing as possible, but if it's for the good of the team and their feedback is this good, I think it's a good thing. We will certainly have to wait a while before knowing what he wants to do. »

Zak Brown, McLaren director, had raised the prospect of the Spaniard testing the McLaren for the 2019 season in order to support the team.
