Carlos Sainz Jr competes in his last Grands Prix with Renault before joining the ranks of McLaren. The son of the double champion WRC currently 12th in the Championship closely follows the situation of the British team which is still struggling to put itself forward by only occupying 6th place in the Manufacturers' Championship.
“They are currently doing the right job. They have hit rock bottom this year and McLaren can only bounce back now. They start from scratch and that gives me confidence. They saw the problems they had and they want to solve them.", commented the future resident of the English team on Cadena Ser radio.
“I hope they are banking on next year by looking at this season as a learning year. My current car is not bad and the McLaren is about 3 tenths behind. But the gap with the rest of the grid is so tight that it complicates things even more for them. It's still weird to see Alonso towards the last place…”, added the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion.
