Sainz Jr: “No margin for error in Australia”

Carlos Sainz Jr is preparing to start the 2018 season this weekend with the Australian GP held at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne. The son of the double champion WRC has always delivered great performances on this track, finishing three times in the Top 10 with Toro Rosso (two 9th places in 2015 and 2016 and an 8th place in 2017).

The Spaniard quickly understood that he had to be extra careful on the Australian circuit, which offers an urban layout where the walls are close.

“I'm ready and if there's a race where you have to be ready, it's in Australia, comments the new recruit of Losange. It’s one of my favorite circuits, not only because of the layout but for the weekend as a whole. I have good results behind me in Australia, it’s one of the trips where I showed consistency. »

“It was the first race last year where we drove the wider single-seaters, recalls Carlos Sainz Jr. We really noticed this because we had to change our lines in the corners to avoid hitting the walls, especially because of the narrowness of the circuit. There is no margin for error in Australia, the track is unforgivable. »

Renault had failed at the points gate last year in Melbourne with 11th place in Nico Hulkenberg. Jolyon Palmer did not see the finish.
