Sainz Jr mocks Verstappen's success

Carlos Sainz Jr can evolve without pressure this season, the son of the double champion of WRC having already been confirmed by Toro Rosso for 2017. The Spaniard looks good against his new teammate Daniil Kvyat, even if it is Max Verstappen who had the preference of Red Bull being promoted into the first team.

“People would be surprised to know how much I don't care about these things and the success surrounding Max, commented Carlos Sainz Jr. I have no reason to be jealous and I have no complexes. I can be proud of what I have achieved in F1 over the last two years and I am one of the luckiest drivers to have managed to find my place in this discipline. »

Carlos Sainz Jr is even more serene since the arrival of Daniil Kvyat since the Russian has only scored two points since his demotion at the Spanish Grand Prix last May.

“He generally did well at the front. He may have been unlucky or possibly tried new things on the car that didn't work as expected, added the Toro Rosso driver. I think he adapted to the (STR11) pretty quickly, even if I don't really care what's going on on the other side of the garage. I'm busy enough with my work. I don't have enough time to analyze why others like Max are faster or why Daniil is struggling. »

The next season could however be more complicated for Carlos Sainz Jr, with Daniil Kvyat's future looking uncertain while several Red Bull Junior Team contenders such as Pierre Gasly aim for his position.

“I don’t have a preference on who my future teammate is because that would mean I’m not confident enough to worry about that kind of thing.”, explained Carlos Sainz Jr.
