Very complicated Sunday for Carlos Sainz on the Singapore side. The start was postponed by an hour and then given on a track that was still very wet, the Hispanic never really found his feet on the streets of the island city-state. If he got off to a good start by getting the best of Lewis Hamilton for the gain of 3e place, the pilot Ferrari then experienced a Grand Prix that was difficult to say the least.

Between tricky track conditions and lack of rhythm, Carlos Sainz was never able to keep up the pace set by the leading duo Sergio Pérez/Charles Leclerc to the point of quickly being almost 10 seconds behind the two men. In addition, he had to work to keep Lewis Hamilton behind him whose racing pace seemed much greater.

« It was unfortunately a solo Grand Prix for me because I just didn't have any rhythm, he lamented after the race. On the intermediate tires, I lost a lot on Charles and Checo. I couldn't keep up with their pace. I was suffering a lot on these rubbers."

Sainz's late awakening

Among the problems that caused him this bad race, Carlos Sainz pointed to a lack of confidence during the first part of the Grand Prix. Confidence regained at the end of the event but the damage was already done and the delay was significant.

« At one point I had to calm down a bit and regain my confidence because I couldn't keep up, recognizes the current 5e of the championship. Once I regained confidence with the slicks and around the last 10-15 laps I managed to be fast, but it was too late. » Despite this poor performance, Carlos Sainz managed to bring home a podium with his 3e place. A result which allowed Ferrari to score more points than Mercedes thanks also to the 2e position of Charles Leclerc and thus give themselves some air in the championship. The Scuderia therefore remains 2e and is now 66 lengths ahead of the German team. The Spaniard returned to a unit from George Russell after the Englishman's zero points.
