Sebastian Vettel took pole position at the end of the qualifying session for the Singapore Grand Prix, ahead of both Red Bulls.

Sebastian Vettel dominates Red Bulls in qualifying in Singapore

The control of Red Bull Racing in Singapore was broken this Saturday afternoon in qualifying, with the pole position established by Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) at the expense of the two RB13s of Max Verstappen et Daniel Ricciardo.

The red bull team had nevertheless fired first in Q1, with Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo best times ahead of the McLaren de Fernando Alonso, Toro Rosso de Carlos Sainz and the second McLaren of Stoffel Vandoorne.

Among the favorites for the title, Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) then showed the most verve in sixth position, the Ferraris only in 11th and 12th positions with Kimi Räikkönen and Sebastian Vettel.

Identical scenario in Q2 for Red Bull with the domination of the two Milton Keynes cars in the same order Verstappen ahead of Ricciardo. Ferrari responds with third and fourth times for Kimi Räikkönen and Sebastian Vettel ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Stoffel Vandoorne, Nico Hulkenberg (Renault), Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz (Toro Rosso).

These ten drivers are competing for pole position in Q3 where Sebastian Vettel starts in 1'39"669, ahead of Verstappen by 145 thousandths and Ricciardo by 193 thousandths. Räikkönen follows four tenths behind, when Hamilton concedes more than half a second after the first passes.

Vettel makes a point of improving on his second attempt in 1’39”491 (new record), not without having touched one of the walls, to sign his fourth pole on this track. Max Verstappen will accompany the four-time world champion tomorrow on the front row. Daniel Ricciardo and Kimi Räikkönen, who lightly touched the wall in his second run of Q3, will start on the second row.

The two Mercedes W08s of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will only start from the third row ahead of Nico Hülkenberg, Fernando Alonso, Stoffel Vandoorne and Carlos Sainz.

Jolyon Palmer (Renault) fails at the gates of the top 10 and is ahead of the Force India of Sergio Pérez, eliminated in Q2 just like his teammate Esteban Ocon, 14th behind the Toro Rosso of Daniil Kvyat, and ahead of his compatriot Romain Grosjean (Haas).

New disappointment in the clan Williams, the FW40s being eliminated from Q1. The British team suffered this Saturday, with Felipe Massa notably coming into contact with the wall, damaging his wheel. The Brazilian ranks 17th between Kevin Magnussen (Haas) and his Canadian teammate Lance stroll. The Saubers of Pascal Wehrlein and Marcus Ericsson bring up the rear.
