Sebastian Vettel: “The pole belonged to Lewis today”

By rising to 32 thousandths of Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) in free practice 3 this morning at Silverstone, we thought Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) able to compete for pole position with the Briton on his home soil.

This was without counting on the mastery of the driver of the No. 08 W44, author of a fantastic lap in Q3 to secure the 67th pole position of his career in F1, to the great joy of all his supporters gathered on the English track. « The time he achieved at the end was very impressive, recognizes Vettel. The gap in the end was very large, around half a second. Pole position belonged to him today. »

What are the hopes for the race?

Si Kimi Räikkönen believes that Scuderia Ferrari should be more comfortable tomorrow in the race, Sebastian Vettel remains more measured as to his expectations for the Sunday test. « Obviously, the goal is to (Lewis Hamilton) put under pressure but, yes, Mercedes were certainly competitive all weekend.

Nevertheless, I think it was a positive day for us. We improved the car. In qualifying the car was great. The last attempt was compromised a bit, the first sector in particular, because the tires were not where they should have been.

As I said, the most important thing is that the car is good. We improved it for today and tomorrow should be better. »
