Despite his second position on the starting grid, Lewis Hamilton failed to take advantage of the opportunity to take his 102nd pole position. Overtaken even before the first turn by Max Verstappen and the two pilots McLaren, the Briton never managed to break away from his fifth place. Lucid, the seven-time world champion predicted a victory for the Dutch driver. “You saw the rhythm of Red Bull. I don't know if Verstappen was faster than Valtteri Bottas, but they are so fast, and now he (Verstappen) is on pole. It should be an easy win for him.”
Despite his frustration, Lewis Hamilton wanted to praise the work of the Red Bull team. “They make changes every week. From what I've been told, there is only one race where they haven't made any changes. They are constantly adding performance to the car and they have done a great job.”

“Try to limit the damage”
For the British driver, the objective this Sunday is clear: give up as few points as possible to Verstappen. “We have to try to understand how we can pass both McLarens tomorrow and try to limit the damage ". Lewis Hamilton will start in fourth position for the Italian Grand Prix, behind Max Verstappen, Daniel Ricciardo et Lando Norris.
