Sergio Marchionne talks about a Haas – Maserati alliance

2018 will see the expected return of the brand Alfa Romeo en Formula 1, as title sponsor of the Swiss Sauber F1 Team, now led by Frenchman Frédéric Vasseur. An alliance which had raised the question of the sporting future of other historic brands of the FIAT-Chrysler group.

All eyes were particularly focused on Maserati, notably involved in F1 in the 50s. Sergio Marchionne, president of FIAT-Chrysler and Ferrari, had clarified last August that the Modena firm could potentially be integrated into a program aimed at the Formula E.

But the Italian manager admitted on the sidelines of the Detroit Motor Show (Michigan) that other possibilities existed for Maserati. « I'm not so sure [about Maserati in Formula E], said Marchionne, quoted by the Italian media.

In terms of possible cooperation, maybe it is better to try to organize a joint project with Haas in Formula 1 rather than trying other options. It would be a good project. »

Sergio Marchionne also admitted to having other ideas for Alfa Romeo, including theIndyCar. The brand had already had experience across the Atlantic by supplying engines in the American championship between 1988 and 1991.
