Sirotkin: “I lack adrenaline”

Sergey Sirotkin took part in Pirelli testing earlier this week at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi. The Russian usually a reserve at Renault set the 16th fastest time in the tests, being one of the only drivers to achieve his best time without hypersoft tires (soft tires were used).

“I did short and long stints, with a lot and a little fuel, explained Sergey Sirotkin to AUTOweekly. We were able to work on the degradation of the rubbers. Our program was cut short due to gearbox problems, but we were still able to accumulate quite a few kilometers. I thank Williams for giving me this opportunity even if I don't know what the future will hold. »

Sergey Sirotkin remains a candidate for a starting place alongside Lance stroll following the departure of Felipe Massa.

“It is certain that I am not here at the tests to enjoy the sun. I cannot hope for a Renault steering wheel in the immediate future for external reasons. It remains a privilege to be able to work with different teams at the highest level. I enjoyed every moment”, commented the Russian.

However, his dream could be compromised with Robert Kubica's desire to return to F1. The Pole, disabled in his right hand following his car accident rally in 2011, seems to be able to maintain a strong pace over the long stints and remains the favorite candidate to replace Felipe Massa.

“I met Robert for the first time, but he is a very open and pleasant person. He readily lends himself to discussions. We could compare our times but times don't mean much. The main thing for him is to have been able to ride at a good level. What he achieves is truly exceptional”, admitted Sergey Sirotkin.

“It’s really difficult not to have a wheel and to be a reservist. I know I'm learning lots of things with the team, but I need adrenaline. The level of emotions is totally different,” he added.
