Steiner: Haas stopped VF-17 development 'a little early'

Haas F1 Team is struggling at the end of the season. If the American team got into the points last weekend at the Mexican GP with eighth place in Kevin Magnussen, Romain Grosjean was not in the rhythm and finished last ranked. Gene Haas' team remains in eighth position in the Constructors' Championship, one point behind Renault Sport F1 Team at two Grands Prix at the end of the season.

While the Frenchman still suffers from significant brake problems hampering his driving, Haas F1 Team preferred to quickly concentrate on achieving the car of the 2018 season at the expense of the VF-17.

“We chose to focus on the 2018 car because we wanted to make significant changes that we could not completely transfer from the VF-17, explained Günther Steiner to the newspaper Ekstra Bladet. We stopped a little early in hindsight. Should we have done this? I do not know. The verdict will not be known until February during the trials. »

“We currently have a nice wind tunnel with lots of data, but I don’t know to what extent the developments made by the teams on their 2017 single-seaters will be transferable to the 2018 cars,” clarified Günther Steiner who indicated that his team had not focused on testing the Halo, this cockpit safety system mandatory from next year.
