Steiner: Haas needs more testing

After a superb start to the season, Haas F1 Team came back fighting to finish in the top ten. As a new team, this difficulty in getting into the points was expected by Günther Steiner, the Team Principal of the American team, who points out the lack of tests to perfect their experience.

“We are probably suffering from the lack of testing, he confirmed on the official F1 website. We are a new team and we have the same number of testing days as the established teams. We have no data to move forward. »

“Take the Monaco race for example. There car was very competitive on intermediate tires, but the compounds were too cold when we switched to slicks. We know the problem but not yet the solution. The cool temperatures do not work in our favor, like in China, in Monaco where it rained, and recently in Montreal (Canada). Temperatures are not an excuse, it is what it is. We would probably need four more days of testing.", added the Haas F1 Team director.

However, Haas F1 Team is not losing hope, particularly while awaiting developments in the Power Unit of Ferrari while the 2017 regulations risk redistributing the cards in the peloton.

“Our weakness is not having enough aero downforce, it’s the disease of the paddock. Everything works better with more support, insisted Günther Steiner. I don't see any major weakness other than that. We have a fairly well balanced car if the tires work and we have a powerful engine. We should have the engine upgrade for Silverstone (the British Grand Prix will be contested on July 10). It should be at the same time as Sauber. There are obviously new parts almost every race. We'll allocate our resources to the 2017 car at some point, but the important thing is to establish Haas' place in the field. »
