Steiner: “I just observe what’s happening”

Without any points after the first Grand Prix in 2021, Günther Steiner seems to have left his “bad guy” costume with his new drivers Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin.

Steiner: “I just observe what’s happening”

With two pilots having everything to discover in Formula 1 in 2021, Günther Steiner changed his working method. Far from sermons to Kevin Magnussen et Romain Grosjean previous years at Haas, the Italian team manager took a slight step back with Mick Schumacher et Nikita mazepin.

“Allowing my drivers to feel comfortable within the team is a major challenge, he explains in the Haas presentation press release for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola. Formula 1 is a very difficult sport, but we knew this challenge, so there are no big surprises.

We have to get through this. I don't try to manage them down to the smallest details. They have their engineers and they have to work with them day by day, or more accurately hour by hour, not with me. Of course, in the beginning I'm well informed about what's going on and try to see where I might need to intervene. »

Günther Steiner therefore relies on his colleagues. “I don’t do the work myself; I have good people working for the team who know how to do the job better than me. I just observe what happens. If there's a problem, I'm there to ask what it is, and then I see if I need to do anything. »
