Stoffel Vandoorne: Red Bull as a reference point in 2018

Another race in Abu Dhabi, and the second chapter in the story between the Japanese engine manufacturer Honda et McLaren will close. A second wedding which did not have the expected response, after recurring setbacks, and despite progress throughout the three years of collaboration.

Aligned full-time in 2017 with the Woking structure, Stoffel vandoorne believes that the British team is worth more than what it has been able to display in terms of performance. « We all know what was the limiting factor, concedes the Belgian on the website of the F1.

But we are changing as a team. There have already been a lot of changes this year and more are planned for 2018. We are doing everything we can to get the team back on track. And we will return to the Woking standard. I know this is the right place to be. »

The example Red Bull

The main change comes from the replacement of the Honda engine with the Power Unit V6 turbo / hybrid Renault in 2018. A new association which leaves great hopes for the former GP2 champion. For Vandoorne, Red Bull must be followed as an example.

« Everything I've heard so far is positive, argues the McLaren driver. The car will not need to be significantly modified, even if it is a big change.

What we have seen from Renault is promising when looking at Red Bull's results – their wins and their podiums. Yes, it will put us under pressure – positive pressure – because we will have a reference point. »
