“Inconclusive” Covid-19 test for Pérez at Silverstone

The 2020 British Grand Prix is not starting ideally for Sergio Pérez (Racing Point). The Mexican took a test to detect a potential Covid-19 infection and it turned out to be “inconclusive”.

The 30-year-old driver should have participated in a press conference this Thursday at Silverstone. This is not the case, because he has placed himself in isolation while waiting to take a second test.

Indeed, a “inconclusive” result does not indicate coronavirus positivity. In this case, you must undergo a test again, which will theoretically remove any doubt. All team members and staff present in the paddock must carry out a test at least every five days according to a health protocol established by the FIA.

La F1 has already had to deal with uncertain cases in Austria and Hungary and none had tested positive. On the other hand, this would be the first time that this has affected a pilot.

If Sergio Pérez were to actually be infected with Covid-19, Racing Point would have to call on another driver to help. Due to an agreement with Mercedes, the seat would go to one of the reserve drivers of the Etoile brand.

However, this weekend, only Esteban Gutiérrez is available, Stoffel Vandoorne being busy with preparations for the final six races of Formula E in Berlin (Germany).
