Toro Rosso cut short its day in Catalonia

Author of a best lap in 1'27″180 with 55 cumulative laps, Carlos Sainz was slowed down this Monday for the first day of Barcelona's pre-season testing in Catalonia by a problem with the gearbox of his STR11, revealed on track this morning in a livery without sponsor.

“Unfortunately, during one of the first runs of the afternoon, we saw something a little strange in the gearbox oil system data, so as a precaution we decided to stop the car. We will now take the time to understand and hope for a better day tomorrow. » said Phil Charles, Chief Race Engineer of Toro Rosso.

Carlos Sainz, who will hand over his steering wheel tomorrow Tuesday to his Dutch teammate Max Verstappen, however, confided that he had enjoyed his day until this incident. “We managed to have a worry-free morning and the afternoon started well until we had to stop the car. But until then everything was going perfectly and I felt good in the car. »
