The two Toro Rosso drivers both have the ambition of making the other forget this season. With, perhaps, the possibility of replacing Mark Webber at Red Bull in 2014.

Toro Rosso: war is declared between Vergne and Ricciardo

They probably won't spend their vacation together. Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo, who begin their second season as drivers and teammates at Toro Rosso, have already embarked on a fratricidal war even before the first Grand Prix of the season begins.

Concretely, the two men will have the objective of making the other forget in order to climb one more level in 2014. An objective which is exacerbated by the fact that Mark Webber's contract with Red Bull, which ends at the end of the year, could not be renewed, which would therefore leave a free place in the big sister team of Toro Rosso and three reigning world champions.

“Yes yes, it’s a very important year for me”, said Daniel Ricciardo, interviewed on the sidelines of his national Grand Prix in Australia, by WA Today. “I believe that the best thing I can do is clearly to beat the Frenchman convincingly (Jean-Eric Vergne, editor’s note)To prove that I'm ready for a seat at Red Bull or elsewhere, I think that's the only thing I should try to aim for. »

The relationship between the two drivers is therefore likely to deteriorate further this season. Good friends at the beginning, Jean-Eric Vergne confirmed a few weeks ago that their relationship had evolved somewhat. “No, we don’t see each other outside of the circuits and we are not friends.” That's promising, especially since Mark Webber, 36, doesn't intend to give up his place like that?
