Tost: “Toro Rosso would accept a 2015 engine”

The future of Red Bull in 2016 is at the center of debates in the paddock of the F1. While the Austrian team will end its contract with Renault at the end of the season, discussions with Mercedes were not successful. The only option comes from Ferrari which offers to provide Power Units for the 2015 season, which the management of the Taureau Rouge refuses.

Franz Tost, Team Principal of Toro Rosso, is concerned about the lack of time his team has to prepare for the next season. “The new calendar shows that the first race is scheduled for mid-March (with the Australian GP in Melbourne). With testing taking place the last week of February and the first week of March, we could be in trouble. We need a quick decision. I don't want to call it an ultimatum, but the sooner the decision is made, the better chance we have of being ready for testing, or at least for the first race in Australia.", commented the Austrian on the official F1 website.

The director of Toro Rosso would even be ready to accept the Power Units of Ferrari of season 2015. "Toro Rosso would accept a 2015 engine because we think it would be progress for us. But Toro Rosso is in a different situation compared to Red Bull. Their DNA is to fight for victories and titles and therefore they want the same material as Ferrari in 2016,” explained Franz Tost.
