Toto Wolff and Niki Lauda have extended their contracts with Mercedes. The two Austrians will remain at the head of the F1 team until the end of 2020.

Toto Wolff and Niki Lauda continue at Mercedes

Toto wolff and Niki Lauda have extended their contracts with Mercedes until the end of 2020. The executive chairman of Mercedes Motorsport the non-executive vice-chairman of Mercedes F1 have been working for the star manufacturer for five seasons. Between them they own 40% of the shares of the reigning world champion team (30% for Toto Wolff and 10% for Niki Lauda).

This announcement comes as Mercedes is in full negotiation with Liberty Media, the new buyers of F1, for the future of the German structure in the discipline beyond the 2020 season. The star-studded team is in the process of reforming with the replacement of Nico Rosberg by Valtteri Bottas et the arrival of James Allison as new technical director.

“We restructured the team management in 2013 with the aim of improving our performance. Since then, the results have exceeded our expectations. The combination of Toto's skills and Niki's experience was one of the keys to this success. The confirmation of their commitments brings important continuity to our program for the next four years”, commented Dieter Zetsche, CEO and executive director of Daimler.

Mercedes F1 will present the W08 for the 2017 season this Thursday, February 23.
