Toto Wolff: “Lewis and Max must find the right way to compete”

After Silverstone, the question was whether further collisions would occur. Now, does she know how to stop them?

We have already seen similar incidents in the past between two drivers playing in the championship. We have to find a “modus operandi” that allows us to keep the confrontation under control, but that can only come from them. Lewis and Max must find the right way to confront each other. Until they find it, there will be incidents.

Does Max have all the faults? Could or should Lewis have given him more space?

Lewis gave him plenty of space at turn 4 on lap 1 to avoid a collision. In hindsight, it would have been better if the accident had happened at that time; which would have at least allowed us to put fewer kilometers on the engine. When the situation was reversed, when Max could have avoided contact by reacting the same way as Lewis at Turn 4, he did not do so.

You spoke of a “tactical fault” concerning Max. What do you mean exactly?

The collision was avoided in one case and not in the other! There are commissioners, they have spoken out. These two boys are among the very best and the real question is: how many actions involving preventing an opponent from winning do we want to see in the future? We must set a date so that everyone is well aware that we are not preventing the other from scoring by simply ending their race. They can fight hard, but leave the necessary space to avoid the accident. Max had a very serious crash at Silverstone and, here, Lewis was very lucky to have the Halo to protect him. I don't know what would have happened a few years ago and I don't even want to think about it because the consequences could have been terrible.

Good joke! On one side an MV 'educated' with heavy slaps by his father and on the other an LH whose extent of his 'abilities' we have already seen during his confrontation with Nico Rosberg. "We must set a date so that everyone is well aware that we are not preventing the other from scoring by simply ending their race" very strong on the part of Toto who seems (like many) to have forgotten the behavior in LH track during the last GP which crowned Rosberg champion, with an LH which tried EVERYTHING to trap Rosberg and take him out to be champion in his place, certainly the example comes from above Schumacher twice, but only once successful , Senna once, premeditated and successful, so wanting to make me believe that this time it will be different, frankly, I doubt it very much.

Everyone avoids looking at the facts, the collision, and for that we focus attention on other past or avoided crashes. Because we risk finding fault with King Hamilton, an unimaginable treason. Because nowadays we no longer judge people on their ACTS and facts but on their CASTES. Hamilton is of an untouchable caste, THEREFORE he MUST be declared an innocent victim and Verstappen MUST be declared guilty and aggressor, no reference to the facts. Well, I may be stretching the point to make myself understood, but given the precedents (e.g. Schumacher basing his career somewhat on such pre-established judgments, notably when he very obviously intentionally caused a crash eliminating his rival ) it is difficult to hope (let's try though) that the surveys will be more factual. That said, I allow myself to talk about these facts, although they are rarely recalled in video; the official interpretation does not seem more credible to me than the following: when leaving the pits, Hamilton, apparently voluntarily, deviated more than necessary to the left, cutting off the path of Verstappen, who still wanted to pass, Hamilton refused to let him pass, and it was Hamilton who coming from behind hit Verstappen and passed under him.
