Reproducing a weekend as perfect as this one will be very difficult for Max Verstappen. The Dutchman has dominated absolutely everything in Barcelona, and has done so since Friday: first in all sessions, author of pole position, best and victory without ever ceding the lead of the race, the driver Red Bull won a sublime 40th career victory. A 3rd Grand Slam in F1 for the 25-year-old driver, who is now a regular at the top of the podium.

“It’s a great pleasure to drive a car like this, rejoiced Max Verstappen. We showed it again today. There were several different tire strategies and I think that in the race we were on the right one. A victory here is incredible. »

Verstappen, the taste for risk at the start

Max Verstappen's victory was decided from the start of the Grand Prix. Red Bull took a risk by letting the Batavian start on medium tires, when the rest of the peloton started on soft tires. Carlos Sainz could have gotten the better of the pole sitter, but the reigning double world champion defended himself well. “I had a harder compound, so it was obviously a little more complicated. Going around the outside at turn 1 is always difficult but luckily nothing happened”, explained Max Verstappen.

Thanks to this 5th success in 7 Grands Prix in 2023, Max Verstappen takes off in the championship with 170 points, compared to 117 for Sergio Pérez. A championship already folded? “We had another successful weekend, and that's what I like to see, of course, for me and for the team. We will try to continue like this all year”, replies the championship leader. It's hard to think otherwise...
