In addition to the possible struggle between Max Verstappen and Ferrari, will this Australian Grand Prix also be punctuated by race strategies this Sunday? This is what the major players in the paddock suggest in any case after the first outings on the asphalt of Albert Park.

For this 2024 edition of the Australian meeting, Pirelli has decided to “innovate”, thus providing a completely different tire range compared to last year. This time, the softest was chosen instead of the average used in 2023.

A “slight” difference which could reshuffle the cards on Sunday during the race. Indeed, on a circuit with low degradation, soft tires could appear to be a great opportunity for certain drivers, especially those a little further back in the peloton.

« It was interesting to try this new softer rubber compared to last year, highlighted Esteban Ocon.

I think this is going in the right direction. The race should be more interesting from this point of view. It is a circuit with very low degradation and this could give rise to more interesting strategies in general. Last year we could do the whole race on one tire and it should be different this year. » Now we'll see if the teams will try their luck with slightly more daring strategies in order to spice up the Grand Prix. In any case, they seem to have a card to play this weekend.
