Drivers should benefit from a new overtaking opportunity this year for the first Grand Prix of the 2018 season, this weekend at Albert Park in Melbourne. The Antipodes event, which until 2017 offered two activation zones for the mobile rear wing system, will finally offer a third.
If the zones established until now remained confined to the pit straight, and to the portion between turns 2 and 3, the first detection on a lap of the Australian track will be 170 m before turn 1 for a activation 104 m after turn no. 12.
The second DRS detection point will always be located before turn 14, for traditional activations. A choice from the FIA and Liberty Media which should offer more spectacle on the track.
