Alfa Romeo finally found the reason for the lack of rhythm of Valtteri Bottas in Azerbaijan. Far from the mark throughout the weekend, beaten for the first time by his teammate Guanyu-Zhou in qualifying, the Finn never found the rhythm in Baku.

The Italian-Swiss team finally discovered what was wrong with the No. 42’s C77. According to the main person concerned, the car was asymmetrical in places. “We changed a lot of things on the car as a precaution, because we saw that it was not behaving as it should have,” explains Valtteri Bottas.

“Something was wrong with the mechanics. We changed the suspensions and we noticed that there were asymmetries, it was a bit strange. The two cars had completely different scales with the same settings. But I'm sure it will be better now and we can fight for points. » Finally arriving 11th in Baku, the ex-pilot Mercedes had failed to score regular points for the first time this season (excluding retirements).

“No reason not to perform” in Canada according to Bottas

Asked about the competitiveness of the Alfa Romeo in Montreal, Valtteri Bottas does not know if his car will be as efficient as at the start of the season. “I wish I had the answer, but there are so many factors with the curbs and the different types of corners here. But I don't see any reason not to perform well here. (…) It’s a race that we missed for which I have a lot of respect. »

Alfa Romeo will look to have a clean weekend in Canada to return to the fight for 4th place in the manufacturer rankings. The Hinwil-based team was overtaken in the championship by Alpine at the end of the Grand Prix in Baku.
