Valtteri Bottas finishes on top in Barcelona

Valtteri Bottas (Williams) set the benchmark time for the sixth day of testing at the Catalunya circuit in Barcelona by setting a time of 1'23"261 on super soft tires after having exceeded the hundred lap mark at the wheel of the FW38. The Finn was ahead Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) who operated in the morning and Kevin Magnussen (Renault).

Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) was one of the most diligent on the track, finishing in fourth place, but the four-time world champion was beaten by Carlos Sainz Jr. (Toro Rosso), sixth on his STR11 which follows the Red Bull RB12 Daniel Ricciardo, after having completed 166 laps. Sergio Pérez (Force India) follows in eighth position.

Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) focused on a race simulation in the afternoon. Pascal Wehrlein (Manor) completes the top ten. Marcus Ericsson (Sauber) was only able to cover 55 laps and caused the only interruption of the day by going off the track at turn 4 after spinning following the loss of a wheel .

The big disappointment at the start of the week concerns Haas F1 Team. Esteban Gutiérrez only completed one installation lap due to further turbo issues. The American team only completed 24 laps in two days with its VF-16.
