Van der Garde upped Caterham F1's game

Giedo van der Garde managed for the first time this season to get a Caterham into Q2 before taking 15th place on the grid for the Monaco Grand Prix, a circuit where qualifying is paramount to a good result. If his teammate Charles Pic will start from 18th place, the Dutchman has the satisfaction of having landed a good position for the Malaysian team. “I’m clearly very happy to put my name in Q2 for the first time this season. But that’s part of the learning process and this result shows how far we’ve come in just six races. We had a good stop in Q1 and I was able to complete four laps on the intermediate tires, which allowed me to progress to Q2. »

The Caterham driver will seek to shine today in the streets of the Principality where he will seek to shine against the Williams who will go alongside him. “The race could be very interesting,” adds the Dutchman. “I start between the two Williams of Bottas and Maldonado and I have had good starts since the start of the year. So I hope that I will be able to make another good start by avoiding a pile-up like the one that happened in GP2 on Friday (with 15 cars damaged). Then everything will be possible. I finished on the podium last year in GP2 and, although that won't happen this year, I will be looking to fight against several cars this afternoon. »
