Vatanen takes the lead

Ari Vatanen has decided to take action. This Friday, the Finn, one of the two candidates for the election of FIA president, filed an appeal before the Paris High Court. The former world rally champion asks the Court to ensure compliance with a certain number of measures to achieve the neutrality of the election.

The FIA was quick to react, reminding Ari Vatanen that measures had already been taken to ensure that the election was as honest as possible. The International Automobile Federation also displays its incomprehension regarding the gesture of Ari Vatanen, candidate against Jean Todt for the post of president of the FIA.

« The FIA is unable to explain the purpose of this legal action, other than simply to create more negative publicity against the FIA, explains the press release from the Federation. All this despite the fact that many of the FIA staff have worked tirelessly in recent months to ensure that the new FIA President would be elected in a dignified and democratic manner. »

« The FIA called on a bailiff to supervise the electoral process and the counting of votes. On October 15, a note was distributed to all voting members explaining in detail the electoral process and the role played by the bailiff. »

« This legal action follows a number of allegations made by Mr Vatanen to the media, attempting to call into question the integrity of FIA staff and the FIA election. However, Mr. Vatanen did not respond to the invitation made to him to clarify and substantiate his allegations. »

The vote to appoint Max Mosley's successor as head of the FIA will take place next Friday, October 23.
