Vatanen wants to bring stability

The campaign for the election of the FIA president is in full swing. If Jean Todt will be present at Monza this weekend, Ari Vatanen spoke to indicate what he intended to put in place. The Finn first promises a mandate placed under the sign of dialogue and appeasement after years of conflict between the different stakeholders of the F1, especially this season where FOTA member teams have threatened to create a parallel series.

The Finn thus wanted to express his weariness of seeing F1 players arguing for many months to impose their point of view on the discipline. “ F1 must stop being a place of fighting between different parties who are not on an equal footing », declared the former member of the European Parliament. “ We must work within a stable framework and have visibility. We can only achieve this by working together. »

« The FIA and other members of F1 need to sit down and discuss this [future rule changes] together because we are all stakeholders, we all have an interest “, he continued before launching a dig at the leaders in place. “ The FIA can decide everything and the others accept without flinching. Okay, it's good for the ego but it comes at the expense of the sport. »

The former world rally champion is trying to differentiate himself from Jean Todt, his opponent for the election of FIA president which will take place on October 23. For this, however, he refuses to use harsh words. “ I refuse to say why I'm better but we represent two different worlds ", he added. " All I can say is that I represent a new beginning for the FIA where all members of this family will have the feeling of being listened to and, I hope at times, inspired by their president. He concluded.
