Record sale for Schumacher's Ferrari F2001

La Ferrari F2001 with which Michael Schumacher won its fourth world title reached a record sum during an auction organized by Sotheby’s Contemporary Fine Art in New York on November 16. There F1 sold in operational condition was sold for 7,5 million dollars, or a little more than 6,3 million euros. Never has the sale of an old F1 reached such a sum.

The organizers did not expect such a sale, with specialists having estimated the Ferrari F2001 between 4 and 5,5 million dollars (between 3,3 and 4,6 million euros).

The seven-time world champion, who won his second title with Scuderia Ferrari in the F2001, has won no less than nine Grands Prix with it. The Maranello team also won the Manufacturers' title, with Rubens Barrichello finishing third behind David Coulthard.

Last weekend was a Peugeot L45 Grand Prix which was sold for a similar price.
