Vergne, however, was not comfortable in Montreal

After the Monaco GP, Jean-Eric Vergne once again achieved his best performance in qualifying with a seventh place in Montreal. If the rain works in the Frenchman's favor, the Toro Rosso driver was not at ease behind the wheel of his STR8.

Vergne, however, was not comfortable in Montreal

Jean-Eric Vergne seems to be on an upward trajectory at the moment. After taking eighth place at the Monaco Grand Prix by reaching Q3 for the first time, the Frenchman once again achieved his best qualifying by taking seventh position on the grid while his teammate Daniel Ricciardo will start from tenth place. The French driver admits, however, that he lacked confidence at the start of the session. ?It wasn?t an easy session and for a moment I even thought I wouldn?t make it out of Q1! But we managed to change a couple of things about my car and it worked. In principle I am comfortable in the rain but that was not the case today. The car wasn't fantastic but I managed to get the best out of it I think. It was complicated to drive in these conditions, but it worked quite well since I qualified in 7th place. »

The pilot Toro Rosso now hopes to face the same conditions for the race even if the forecast predicts dry weather for the Grand Prix. After obtaining his second top ten of the season in the streets of the Principality, JEV plans to once again finish in the points on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit. “This is my best qualification in F1, but that doesn't mean I'm going to jump for joy because the points are only won on Sunday. Most of the work remains to be done tomorrow since I will have to capitalize on this place on the grid and even try to do even better. I'm a racing driver, so I always want to move forward. It will be a difficult Sunday afternoon with probably different track conditions, but our pace during the long stints was good yesterday, so there is reason to be optimistic. »
