Vergne feels useful within Scuderia Ferrari

Jean-Éric Vergne will no longer be lined up on the Grand Prix starting grids in 2015 after being fired by Red Bull who replaced it with Max Verstappen. But the French pilot keeps one foot in F1 becoming test driver at Scuderia Ferrari, while he remains active with Andretti Autosport in Formula E (6th at the Buenos Aires ePrix).

“I prefer to have work on the simulator and do something useful rather than being a reservist », said JEV in the Gazzetta dello Sport. “Today, the role of third driver is to be present without doing anything specific. It would be frustrating not to be able to help the team and I feel my role is important. »

Jean-Éric Vergne does not want to give up his chances of regain a starting place in F1, while the future of Kimi Räikkönen at Maranello remains uncertain. “I gave the best of myself and I have no regrets,” added the 24-year-old Frenchman. “I am now at Ferrari, which offers a great opportunity for 2016. Even if I can't race this year, I think it's better than always being last as was the case with Caterham and Marussia. »
