Second match point for Max Verstappen. The Dutchman has a new opportunity to become a double world champion Formula 1 this weekend in Suzuka. He will need to score 6 points more than Charles Leclerc and 8 points more than Sergio Pérez to be crowned at the end of the Japanese Grand Prix. A second opportunity which arrives a week after the setbacks in Singapore. An eventful meeting in the streets of the city-state, one of the rare times when Red Bull has not shown complete serenity this season.

Arriving on the grounds of Honda, which will once again attach its name to the single-seaters of Milton Keynes, Max Verstappen hopes for a much more favorable outcome than a week ago, on the circuit where he carried out his first test session in 2014. “It makes things a little more special because of our relationship with Honda, said the Batavian, about a possible victory for the title this weekend. I think it was already a shame that we couldn't be here last year. We're really looking forward to being back here and then we'll see what happens. We need a perfect weekend, that's for sure. »

Verstappen " do not think too much " to the title at Suzuka

With 5 Grands Prix remaining on the calendar, it is not impatience that is eating away at the Dutchman, but rather the symbolism of a title gleaned at Suzuka. Max Verstappen could follow in the footsteps ofAlain Prost, Ayrton Senna or Sebastian Vettel, all crowned at Suzuka with a Honda engine or with Red Bull. “It would be great if it happens here, but if it doesn't happen here, I will be in an even more favorable position for the next race, said the reigning world champion. It doesn't really change much, you still want to have a good weekend and try to maximize everything you can. I need a perfect weekend to be able to win the title here but, to be honest, I'm not thinking about it too much. »

A perfect weekend, unlike the one in Singapore. Asked about his feelings after his 7th place during the last Grand Prix and his truncated qualifying at the very end of the session, Verstappen remained pragmatic. “It’s not rocket science, I mean, you just have to watch the fuel level!” So there's not much to change... When you fuel the car for five laps, you can do five laps, you're not going to do six laps. You can talk about it for hours, but it's not going to suddenly change anything. » At Suzuka, in a Grand Prix that he has never won, Max Verstappen will want to turn the page on Singapore and write a new chapter in its history.
