Verstappen: “It’s better than expected”

Max Verstappen achieved the best time of the first day of testing for the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps by completing a lap in 1'48''085 with more than two tenths ahead of his teammate Daniel Ricciardo.

If the pilots Mercedes Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton did not seek to achieve a perfect lap in the second session, preferring to concentrate on the race, the performances of the Red Bull RB12 looks promising for the rest of the weekend.

“It was a very good day for us, recognized the winner of the Spanish Grand Prix. We showed a very good pace compared to the other teams, it's better than expected, even if it's hard to say where Mercedes is. I'm obviously happy to be at the front in front of so many Dutch fans, but we're not even in qualifying yet. It still motivates me! »

" There car is very difficult to balance on this track. I had some difficulties, but the last changes made finally paid off, added Max Verstappen. I'm sure we can still improve, but we'll have to wait and see what others do. »

Daniel Ricciardo is also satisfied with the good form of the RB12s since he set the second fastest time of the afternoon.

“It’s been a pretty good day. We seem to be performing well given the times given that the Red Bulls are in the lead, but the Mercedes did not use the super soft tires and Force India is quite close, underlined the Australian. We should be able to be even faster than what we showed today, but I feel like we are in the right car. We feel that the holidays are over in the garage, everyone is fully engaged in their work! »
