Verstappen: “This is not how I want to win a Grand Prix”

After two difficult races, Max Verstappen marks his return to the top step of the podium. Despite everything, the Dutchman will not benefit from the 25 points for victory since the race only lasted two laps behind the safety car due to weather conditions.

“It was very important to take pole position yesterday, says Verstappen. It's really a shame not to have done real racing laps but the conditions were dire. Visibility was very poor. I think if we had started at 15:00 p.m. we could have driven a bit. This is not how I wanted to win this race. A big thank you to the spectators who were there all day. »

The pilot Red Bull thus pockets 12,5 points when his rival Lewis Hamilton leaves Spa-Francorchamps with 7,5 points. The gap between the two title contenders is now 3 points.

“We will continue to attack to try to reduce the gap as much as possible, specifies the Dutchman. I am very confident in the level of performance of the car so I hope that we continue to achieve good results. »

The drivers will now go to a new circuit on the calendar starting next week at Zandvoort. Max Verstappen will be keen to achieve a big result in front of his home crowd, and perhaps even regain the lead in the championship.
