New improbable twist in what is becoming an incredible saga with potentially explosive sporting consequences at the end of a decidedly thrilling 2021 campaign on all terrains.

A few minutes after deciding topostpone decision on possible disqualification of Lewis Hamilton for non-compliant DRS, the commissioners of the São Paulo Grand Prix immediately summoned his rival Max Verstappen for a hearing set for 09:30 a.m. Brazil time on Saturday morning.

The Dutchman is suspected of having breached Article 2.5.1 of the FIA International Sporting Code.

The text of the law in question states that “ Inside the Parc Fermé, access is only permitted to assigned officials. Any operation, verification, preparation or restoration is prohibited unless authorized by the above-mentioned officials or applicable regulations. ».

It now appears clear that the stewards want to know more about the Dutchman's attitude after qualifying. A video posted on social media, and quickly going viral, showed Verstappen physically inspecting the rear wing ofHamilton.

Mercedes does he consider that the Batavian could have distorted the result of the inspection subsequently carried out by the technical director of the FIA Jo Bauer. The latter had noted that the DRS of the No44 Mercedes was opening beyond the regulatory limit of 85 mm and brought the information to the attention of the stewards.

The scenario would not lack irony for Red Bull and would mark quite a turnaround, while an infraction of the technical regulations generally results in disqualification.

But in a 2021 season like no other, nothing can be ruled out.
