Max Verstappen could have taken off his helmet at the start of Q2, this Saturday October 30 at Imola. The pilot Red Bull had lost his temper on the radio and reported significant power losses from his Honda engine.
The Dutchman would then witness a feat from his mechanics. An electrical sensor problem was detected under the engine hood of the car. In eight minutes, a spark plug was replaced and the car could return to the track!

The car then regained its momentum and took it to third place on the starting grid. The feat of beating the Mercedes on a ride will wait.
“Normally throughout qualifying you know exactly where you still have time to gain but I never really paid attention to that because I had to do an emergency lap on the mediums in Q2, explains Max Verstappen. Then after that, going into the first part of Q3, not always having a perfect reference on the soft tires made everything a little trickier.
I think P3 was the most we could have done anyway and I didn't expect to beat Mercedes, but I would have liked to have been a bit closer, which I think was possible if we had had a cleaner qualification.
After the session, I went to congratulate the mechanics because it was impressive again to get my car out in Q2. They always do their best even if it seems impossible and we should be very proud of that. »
