In Hungary, Red Bull expected to suffer. But certainly not to this extent. After the first day of testing at the Hungaroring, the engineers and mechanics made some changes to the RB18 Max Verstappen. This should allow him to fight at the front during qualifying. In 7th position before his last attempt in Q3, the world champion was able to catch up on Ferrari to get the first line. But the Dutchman's hopes were very short-lived. After the first corner, the RB18's engine was idling and forced the world champion to watch all his competitors improve their marks from the pits.

Furious after this failure of his car, the anger had subsided in the mixed zone after qualifying. “ We made some changes which were very positive, a lot of guys here and at the factory analyzed a lot of things and I think they understood and it's of course very promising and very good. The car was very pleasant to drive today », underlines Max Verstappen.

No information yet on Max Verstappen's problem at the end of Q3

But the world champion's feelings did not translate onto the track. If qualifying was marred by this failure, we will have to hope that this problem does not reappear on Sunday during the Hungarian Grand Prix. “ We couldn't really show it in Q3 because of the power problem. I still don't know what it is, we need to talk to the team about it, but I sure hope everything is fixable “, says the Red Bull driver.

So in 10th position just in front of his teammate on the starting grid, can Max Verstappen still hope to worry Ferrari and Mercedes Sunday ? The Dutchman remains optimistic. “ The track will be quite similar in terms of temperature, I know it's really difficult to overtake on this circuit so we have to be patient too, but anything can happen. This year has proven that a lot can happen, even on Sunday, so you just have to be patient », recalls the world champion. The weather on Sunday could greatly help Max Verstappen but we will have to resolve this power problem otherwise we risk losing big points in Hungary.
