Verstappen explains his crash: “There were squalls”

Max Verstappen (Red Bull) wanted to impress his many supporters in Austria, but the Dutchman did not want to do it this way this Friday June 28. The youngest winner of a Grand Prix made a mistake during the second free practice session of the day, causing a red flag:

The winner of the last edition held at the Red Bull Ring succinctly explains his accident. “The rear gave way following a loss of grip. It's never a good feeling but we have plenty of spares. »

In fact, it was the gusts of wind that destabilized the RB15. « The conditions on the track were tricky with quite a bit of wind. I complained about it at every turn actually. There were squalls. Sometimes the wind came from the front before changing direction quickly. I came to the last corner and in the middle of the curve I lost the rear of the car. Precisely where you don't want to lose it.", analyzes Max Verstappen.

Apart from this alert, the results of this first day are encouraging, on a track where the Red Bull were comfortable in recent years. “Our level of performance is correct. We are reasonably competitive. You always want to do better but my lap times didn't look bad.

I found myself in traffic during my reference time so there is a way to appear higher on the timesheet. I'm happy with the way the car behaves but we still need to extract more performance in the corners and in a straight line. » That's almost everywhere on the 4,318 km of track.
