And ten! Max Verstappen (Red Bull) recorded his 10th pole position in Formula 1 this Saturday September 4 in front of an audience committed to his cause in Zandvoort (Netherlands). The Dutchman will long remember this day when the stands, covered in orange, proclaimed their love for carrier number 33.

In return, the leader of the Red Bull team offered quite a tour de force, dominating the three phases of these qualifications contested on a dry track. However, it only took 38 thousandths for Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) does not blow the pole away from him.

The Englishman was able to use his DRS in the final straight, unlike his opponent, but this record in the final sector was not enough to overtake him. Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), thanks to its third row, will be able to play the role of “wingman” wonderfully, no offense to the Finn heading towards Alfa Romeo.

His (very likely) replacement within the Star brand, George Russell (Williams), stood out but in the bad sense of the word by making a mistake in Q2.

His teammate Nicholas latifi (Williams) did even stronger by destroying his mount at high speed a few tens of minutes later, paying the price for Lando Norris (McLaren) stuck out of the top 10.

Once again, the best of the rest was the French Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri). The Norman dominated his sidekick head and shoulders Yuki tsunoda (14th) and will start from fourth position.

Behind, the Ferrari made a group shot in the fifth (Charles Leclerc) and sixth rank (Carlos Sainz Jr). One of the great performances of the day is to the credit of Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo), who achieved one of his most impressive qualifications (7th), ahead of the two Renault and the McLaren of Daniel Ricciardo (10e).

Called to the rescue in place of Kimi Räikkönen suffering from the coronavirus, Robert Kubica could not do better than a meager 18th time. It’s barely worse than the four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin), only 17th. Even more worrying given his equipment, Sergio Pérez was not worthy of his Red Bull wheel with a 16th time, dropped after poor timing when leaving the pits at the end of Q1.

The grid is completed by the two Haas. Mick Schumacher et Nikita mazepin got a little too close again during their installation lap at the end of Q1. The Russian sharply criticized the German for not respecting priority when leaving the pits; according to him, the son of Michael Schumacher broke the rule for the second meeting in a row, that is to say he overtook Nikita Mazepin without having the right to do so according to the “victim”.
