Verstappen: 'I don't know what happened'

Three races in Italy this season, three retirements. Max Verstappen will not keep good memories of the trans campaignalpine 2020. On Sunday, he was cut down in the middle by a burst tire. “I suddenly lost the car on a straight line,” he explains. “I don’t know what happened. I looked at the car and found nothing broken on the car. »

The Dutchman had animated the start of the race by scrapping with Valtteri Bottas. “I had a good start and was enjoying the fight between the two Mercedes » says Max Verstappen.

“It was a chess game to see who was going to go home first. I stopped early to trigger the stops and Valtteri followed me, but he had major damage which made me lose a lot of time on Lewis who had the way clear. As soon as I managed to pass it, the rhythm came and I had a lot of fun. The tire burst is a real shame because it spoils a good second place. »

Without Verstappen, RedBull no longer has a wildcard. The team leaves Emilia Romagna with no points since Alex Albon failed to enter the top 10 after his spin at the restart.
