Verstappen: Points are a realistic goal

Max Verstappen has caused a lot of ink to flow since the announcement of his arrival at Toro Rosso. At 17, the Dutchman is preparing to become the youngest driver in the history of the F1. But his performances convinced Dr. Helmut Marko, head of the young pilot sector Red Bull, to bet on him. The Faenza team will thus evolve with a crew of rookies since Carlos Sainz Jr was also started.

After taking third place in the F3 European Championship, Max Verstappen hopes to win points for his first season in F1. « This is a realistic goal for me », he commented in The Telegraph. “I will do a good job finishing between 8th and 10th place. It will take luck to do better than sixth. This can obviously happen with rain, crashes and retirements, but we can't expect to face Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren et Williams who have much higher budgets. Fortunately, the first wind tunnel tests of the new car are promising. »

If Max Verstappen's takeoff was spectacular, the son of Jos still evolving in karting two years ago, the young prodigy seemed to keep his head on his shoulders. “I sometimes hear or read things that make you believe in miracles. But I'm a pilot, not a magician. Podiums and victories are not on the agenda for the next season. »
