Verstappen points to lack of pace

Main threat of Mercedes, Max Verstappen (Red Bull) was never able to worry the Silver Arrows. A time 2nd on his first stint, the 23-year-old driver tried to attack the leader Valtteri Bottas, in vain and despite the DRS.

Worse still, the Dutchman saw Lewis Hamilton pay him back by dropping him off on the start/finish line a few laps after having shown politeness to the Englishman.

« It was a good race, he said, visibly satisfied upon arrival. I made a good restart then I tried to put pressure on Valtteri Bottas but in the end I think we lacked pace in the race and Lewis then overtook me ».

Solid 3rd behind the two Mercedes, Max Verstappen took advantage of a small error from Valtteri Bottas when leaving the pits to take 2nd position but the difference in speed did not allow him to fight for the win against Lewis Hamilton.

« We managed to settle into 2nd place but everyone could see our lack of pace, he repeated. Overall, it was a rather strange weekend, particularly regarding the car's grip. We weren't at our best here. We will see what we can do in Barcelona ».

This disappointment was finally extended to the Parc Fermé since the Dutchman learned that his best time in the race, synonymous with an extra point, had been canceled for failure to respect the limits at the 14th corner of the circuit.

« It's a good one there, laughed Max Verstappen. It's weird because they weren't checking track limits at turn 14 but whatever ».
