Verstappen wants fairer sanctions

The Mexican Grand Prix highlighted the difficulties for stewards in penalizing drivers fairly. Several competitors received a sanction for their maneuvers on the track, so much so that the final result in the trifecta was modified twice after the finish of the race.

The Dutchman from the stable Red Bull Racing questioned the effectiveness of the regulations in terms of sanctions imposed on drivers in a publication given to its sponsor Exact.

“The problem with these kinds of rules is that they complicate discipline, both for spectators and for stewards. It was evident at the Mexican Grand Prix, explained the winner of the Spanish Grand Prix. Lewis (Hamilton) cut the first corner and was not penalized. I did the same thing when I was in a fight with Sebastian Vettel, I was penalized by five seconds and thus lost my third place. This is a ridiculous situation. »

Max Verstappen had initially been demoted from third to fifth place for maintaining the advantage over Sebastian Vettel after cutting a corner, while the driver of the Team Ferrari was also penalized after the finish for its defense against Daniel Ricciardo.

“Lewis and I missed the same turn. I only gained a small advantage while he retained the lead of the race. I was punished, not Lewis, which shows that there are two standards”, specified Max Verstappen.

“There are still two races left this season. They may be able to take advantage of the winter break to study the regulations under the microscope and provide more clarity, hoped the Red Bull driver. The rules are necessary and I will always respect them, but they are only fair if they are applied equally to everyone. »

If Max Verstappen believes he was unfairly penalized in Mexico, the Red Bull driver has often escaped punishment this season with a particularly aggressive defense of the Dutchman.
