Vettel: the essential was done at the start of Spa

Sebastian Vettel did not miss his return to school. Taking advantage of a Spa-Francorchamps track spared from the rain, the three-time world champion took the lead in the race on the first lap by dropping the Mercedes of the poleman Lewis Hamilton in the Kemmel straight and quickly created a cushion over his pursuers. The pilot Red Bull only had to control his course, his car being significantly faster than his opponents. This fifth victory of the year, his second in the Belgian Ardennes after his success in 2011, allows him to leave with 46 points ahead of Fernando Alonso, his closest rival whom he is ahead of on the podium.

“It was a fantastic race for us.”, recognizes Sebastian Vettel shortly after getting out of his Red Bull. “It helped me to pass Lewis on the first lap. We then had incredible pace when we found ourselves at the front of the race. The car was much better than expected. We were able to control the race, I really liked it. Fortunately, the rain didn't come and we didn't have to make any hasty stops. We will now focus on Monza (September 8) where we may not be as competitive. »
