Vettel wary despite Singapore lead

Sebastian Vettel scored the 49th pole of his career by winning qualifying for the Singapore GP while setting the lap record at Marina Bay (see video). The pilot Ferrari was ahead of his closest opponent by more than three tenths Max Verstappen (Red Bull), while his rival for the title Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) only took fifth place.

“I attacked hard, confirmed Sebastian Vettel. I was satisfied with my first flying lap (in Q3) but I thought it wouldn't be enough because the track was improving as the laps went by. I didn't really feel comfortable in the last sector. I told myself not to touch the brakes entering turn 19. Maybe I should have because I hit the wall, but the main thing is that it worked. »

With five points behind Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel could regain the advantage at the end of the Singapore GP. The Ferrari driver is, however, wary of a possible return of the Mercedes to the race.

“The race will be long and they are really fast, underlined Sebastian Vettel. We had a difficult evening yesterday but it was better today and I am sure the car will be the same tomorrow. So it will be better but the race will be close. »

His teammate Kimi Räikkönen will start just ahead of Lewis Hamilton in fourth position.
