Vettel couldn't see himself beating Ricciardo for pole in Monaco

Sebastian Vettel was satisfied with his second position on the grid for the Monaco GP. The pilot Ferrari finds himself ahead of his main rival for the title Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), even if the Championship leader will start on the right side, and did not see himself in a position to beat the lap record signed by the pole sitter Daniel Ricciardo who beat him by two tenths.

“I am quite satisfied, recognized the four-time world champion. We always have the impression of having given up a little, but I don't think Daniel could be worried today. I congratulate him because he performed very well in qualifying. We were as close as we could be. »

On a circuit where the performance differences between the Power Units are smaller, Red Bull is often expected as a team contending for victory. However, Scuderia Ferrari secured a double last year with a victory for the four-time world champion.

“We expected Red Bull to be fast here, double Monaco GP winner confirmed. They have a competitive car that has more downforce than the others. We were not at the level we wanted in Barcelona and it will be different again in Canada (June 10). It is certain that we still have to progress. »

Sebastian Vettel has not been on the podium since his second victory of the season at the Bahrain GP. The Ferrari driver is 17 points behind Lewis Hamilton in the Championship.
