Vettel: Ricciardo could constantly respond

Sebastian Vettel had to settle for second place points at the Monaco GP. The pilot Ferrari remained in ambush throughout the race facing Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) plagued by mechanical problems, but the German did not have the necessary speed to threaten the Australian and hope to achieve a third victory in the Principality.

“We had the pace, but it was a difficult race, recognized the Ferrari driver. Daniel was constantly able to respond. I could keep up with him quite easily in the first stint, but then he started to increase his pace when Lewis (Hamilton) has stopped. He was performing better at the time and I was no longer able to keep up with him. I had to keep my tires which were deteriorating quite quickly. »

Facing Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) in difficulty in the Monegasque event, Sebastian Vettel preferred to secure a good result which allows him to take three points from the Championship leader to return to 14 points.

“Daniel had some problems, but he was able to attack again towards the end, added the four-time world champion. I was also not confident with the tires during the restart (following the virtual safety car put in place following the collision of Charles Leclerc et Brendon Hartley) and I lost a lot of ground. I would still have liked to be able to put pressure on him in the last laps. »
